This site displays the fine artworks of Robert L. Henderson |
ARTIST
Robert L. Henderson grew up in a small southern town just south of Richmond, Virginia, called Chester. Growing up in the "South" was never easy for blacks, he has been categorized unkindly as a "Black Artist." He is an artist. Robert is inspired not only by the content of his life, but as you examine his work you feel the presence of his immediate talent. His work contains a strong sense of detail and is considered pleasing to the eye. Born the middle of five, he was often told what he could do and should not do. Face with constrictive and confining rules cast on him by outside influences, he decided to create his own place in the world. He sat aside the demands that others tried to place on him and his dreams to become the man that he wanted to become. Fortunately, his family has helped to support him in his desires and ambitions. He gives thanks to his family and friends who have endured his pain and struggles with their thoughts and prayers. His work has many influences, mostly Renaissance and Baroque masters such as: Leonardo De Vinci, Michael Angelo, Raphael and Donatello. The artist who inspired him the most was Norman Rockwell. Through out his childhood, he was shown prints of his Saturday Evening Post illustrations and paintings that were in the National Art Gallery and others location that my parents and family took him to examine and learn. Thanks to the strong women and men that raised him, he was allowed to travel around the country studying and honing skills as an artist. Unfortunately, many of his beloved relatives have had their lives shortened by common debilitating diseases such as Diabetes. His mother moved on to glory, during his college years. This site is dedicated to her lasting memory. He knows that she is with me and guiding him. He loved his Mother and misses her. She and his aunts helped raise him, to be the man that he is today! His father and he did not see eye to eye many times. His father's belief is that as a man, one should simply get a job and work hard for the things that life has to offer, like he did and his father before him. Robert's father was forced to leave school at a young age to work to support his family. However, Robert wants to let the world know how very proud he is to have him in my life. His father's work ethic instilled in each of his children has nourished our belief that there is nothing that we can not do or accomplish. |
